Beijing Outlook: This is the strongest sport for Romania at olympics and should bring multiple medals as before. Note:
Romania have left middle distance runner Liliana Popescu (800 m / 1.500 m) out of the team for the Beijing Olympics for failing a drugs test, the Romanian Olympic Committee (COR) has confirmed.

Mircea Bogdan (3.000 m hurdles) has an injury and will not be part of the Romanian Olympic athletic team.

Viorica Tigau (Long Jump) has achieved standard A and the Romanian Olympic Committee (COSR) has decided to include her in the athletics team for Beijing.

Beijing Outlook: Romania won 3 medals in Athens and two of the athletes that medal there will compete again in Beijing with a chance to medal again. Marian Oprea (triple jump) & Ionela Târlea (400 m hurdles) won silver at the last Olympics and they are capable of repeating their past performances. Also to watch is Bianca Perie (hammer throw) who just won World Junior hammer title with a 67.95m throw at the 12th IAAF World Junior Championship in Bydgoszcz, Poland. Also notable are Nicoleta Grasu (discus) & Angela Moroşanu (400 m hurdles).
